Anthropic bet on a solo founder

Anthropic bet on a solo founder.

I'm one person building AIVA Claims — a free AI assistant that helps veterans organize their records and file VA disability claims. Through Claude for Startups, Anthropic gave me a package worth roughly $14,500 in year-one value:

  • Five Premium Team seats, free for a year — a $7,500/year value. Each Premium seat carries five times the usage of a Pro plan, so this is effectively 25 Pro-equivalents of Claude access.
  • $1,000 in one-time API credits — granted October 2026, good through April 2027.
  • $500/month in pooled API credits — $100 per Premium seat, renewing every month, capped at $500. That's $6,000/year of renewable API spend.

What that means in API terms

The seats alone are worth $625/month. At Sonnet 5.5's API rates ($2 per million input tokens), that single month of subscription equals 312.5 million input tokens. The whole package would buy 7.25 billion input tokens of Sonnet 5.5.

Here's the part that matters: my actual API burn has been about $77/month. The grant covers roughly eight times my real usage. My AI infrastructure bill is $0 while I build.

Why it matters

Every dollar a nonprofit doesn't spend on compute is a dollar that goes to the mission. This is what it looks like when a giant actually bets on a solo builder — not a press release, but the raw materials to keep building.

The honest fine print: the monthly credits are use-it-or-lose-it each billing cycle, the $1,000 expires in April 2027, and the free seats convert to $7,500/year in October 2027. I'm grateful for the runway, and I'm spending it on veterans.
