Compare the official payment history
VA’s payment history tool lists past disability compensation, pension, and education payments for veterans, as well as certain survivor payments. Open it directly on VA.gov and compare the amount and date with your bank’s transaction.
Keep those details in your own notes. If you have several VA benefits, check the payment’s benefit type instead of assuming every deposit relates to the disability claim you are waiting on.
Read the decision separately
Use the decision letter to understand what VA decided. A payment entry and a claim’s decision letter serve different purposes. Do not use the size of an unexpected deposit as a substitute for reading the actual award or denial.
If you are still waiting for a letter, check whether it is available in the claim status tool. Save the letter alongside your own payment comparison once it arrives so you can ask a specific question about any difference.
Prepare a clear verification question
Write down the transaction date, amount, and exact description, then compare them with the entry on VA.gov. Ask VA which benefit and period a payment covers. Ask your bank about the transaction information it can provide if the description is unclear.
A useful question is: ‘My bank shows this deposit on [date], but I cannot match it to this VA payment entry. Which benefit and payment period does it cover?’ Keep bank account numbers, screenshots, and personal claim records out of public discussion threads. This page does not ask you to upload banking information.
