Add up to 12 ratings. For the optional bilateral factor, select the affected arm or leg only for separately rated conditions that affect use of that extremity. Both sides of a pair need a compensable rating. Leave other conditions as “No paired limb.”

How the calculation works

Ratings are combined from highest to lowest using the whole-number results in the VA table. The final value rounds to the nearest 10%, with 5 rounding up. Example: 50% and 30% combine to 65%; adding 10% gives 69%, which rounds to 70%.

For eligible paired limbs, the calculator combines their ratings first, adds 10% of that value, and rounds the group to a whole number before combining it with other ratings. It also checks exclusions from the bilateral group and keeps a higher final rating when the exception applies.

This estimates combined-rating math only. It does not decide service connection, bilateral eligibility, TDIU, special monthly compensation, amputation limits, or payment amounts. Paired skeletal muscle cases and conditions with a single bilateral diagnostic-code rating need individual review; do not split one assigned rating into two entries. For an uncertain limb classification, confirm with an accredited representative. VA determines your actual award.
